Gum Disease Treatment

Treatment for bleeding, receding, or inflamed gums, before it costs you teeth. Available at our Kitchener, ON dental clinic.

About Service

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults, and it's often well advanced before it becomes uncomfortable. Bleeding when you brush, persistent bad breath, tenderness, or gums that look red and puffy are the early warnings worth acting on.

The first stage, gingivitis, is entirely reversible. A thorough professional cleaning and some adjustments to your routine at home are usually enough to resolve it. Left untreated it progresses to periodontitis, where the supporting bone begins to break down, and that damage can't be undone.

For patients who've reached that point, we provide scaling and root planing: a deep cleaning below the gumline that removes bacterial deposits from the tooth roots and gives the gum tissue a chance to reattach. It's typically done over more than one visit, with the area numbed for comfort. In advanced cases teeth can become loose enough to need removal, which is exactly what early treatment avoids.

Why it matters beyond your mouth

Gum inflammation has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory conditions, since the bacteria involved can enter the bloodstream. Treating your gums is genuinely about more than your teeth. Periodontal treatment is covered under the Canadian Dental Care Plan, with direct billing to Sun Life.
